I was upstairs just now in the new play room we are creating for the kid*s* (plural, kind of weird). I was sanding the plaster Ivan repaired and painting a big spot on the green wall. I turn around to see Audrey standing behind a little stool with her hands on either side of the top of it and she is clearly pretending that it is a podium and that the green wall is her audience. And out of her mouth comes this (no joke), “Jesus welcomes…” I turn around, smiling and quite surprised and, of course, she stops.
What kind of sermon would have proceeded if I hadn’t turned around, I wonder?
I ask her later if she was “preaching” and she just looks at me kind of funny. And then she starts off in her own Audrey sort of language telling me all sorts of things about Jesus. Jesus fixes her owies. Jesus keeps her safe. Jesus helps Audrey and Mommy. Amazing. Where did she learn all of this? ‘Cuz I sure don’t remember teaching her all of this.
I wonder who this little girl named Audrey Anne is going to become someday, I really do wonder.
A Friday evening of “being kind to myself”.
Author: Shanel Martens // Category: Home sweet home, LIFEThis would include:
– making a cup of Madagascar vanilla red tea with organic sugar twirled in with one of my dainty tea spoons
– asking my wonderful husband to build me a fire with the aid of his blow torch
– taking a very hot bath with aromatherapy swirled in
– lathering up my feet in a delicious orange scented oil from L’Occitane
– lighting candles on the mantle and throughout the house
– putting on my sister’s extremely comfort-able grey stretchy pants that fit my very large belly
– dousing my lips in Burt’s Bees
– warming up the neck warmer to wrap around my shoulders, relaxing the tight muscles
– letting my toes warm by the heat of the fire as I lounge in the recliner
– enjoying the smell of the fire lightly wafting through the house
– soaking up the quiet of my house before a newborn comes marching in
– and, of course, reading the second novel in my vampire series which is now introducing the werewolves, the protectors
Am I an “S” on the Myers-Briggs or what?
I forgot one other funny thing Audrey says randomly…
“COCKADOODLEDOO!!” And for fun she may sometimes throw in a “quack, quack!”
She’s my little rooster.
One day I was driving home from work and I received a text message from Ivan. Ivan routinely picks up Audrey from school and they have some father/daughter time together in the afternoon. The text read, “AA is cockadoodledooing.” I laughed aloud and found this very endearing.
Here is a “COCKADOODLEDOO” to you this morning!
